Chardonnay
Dehlinger has long been recognized for its Russian River Valley Chardonnays, which are known for their balance, fresh acidity, and unctuous flavor.
Estate Vineyard
Our first Chardonnay planting on the Estate dates back to 1975. Over the decades, we’ve established additional blocks, honing our viticultural techniques and ever-refining our approach.
Today, our Estate Chardonnay bottling showcases vines grown in the classic goldridge soil, and grafted to the California heritage Wente clone, known for its small clusters, concentrated berries, and distinct minerality with a subtle, oily viscosity.
Old vine gems at the garbro ranch
2017 we acquired the historic Garbro Ranch, which now exists as contiguous part of the Estate vineyard. The old vine plantings at the Garbro Ranch contain three heritage California clones of Chardonnay: Rued, See’s, and Curtis. The Rued and See’s clones are distinctively aromatic, and are showcased in our Garbro Ranch Chardonnay.
Classic, artisinal techniques
Dehlinger Chardonnays are crafted using traditional techniques which preserve the flavor and elegance of the variety.
At harvest, the grapes are picked at night, brought cold into the winery and whole cluster pressed to extract the highest quality juice. From there, the juice is fermented in French oak barrels using native yeasts.
integration & balance
The wine gains further complexity through full malolactic fermentation and extended aging on the lees for approximately one year. Our aim is to make an expressive wine, true to its origin, with integration and balance.
Since the late 1990s, we have bottled our Chardonnays unfiltered to capture the full flavor potential and most pleasing texture possible.
