Dehlinger wines are made possible through the contributions of many. In addition to the Dehlinger family, about 15 other individuals join us in the pursuit of winegrowing excellence, from tending the vines to assisting our customers.
Eva Dehlinger, General Manager
Inspired by the Japanese concept of kaizen, or constant improvement, Eva seeks excellence in all aspects of Dehlinger's operation. Recognizing that quality winegrowing demands thought and careful planning, Eva keeps her ears to the ground and her steps in the vineyard as she guides both the vineyard and winery teams at Dehlinger.
Before joining the company in 2007, Eva studied Earth Systems Science with a focus in Land Management at Stanford University as an undergraduate. She later studied viticulture and terroir for a year at the masters level at the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France.
Tom Dehlinger, Owner & Winemaker
Founder Tom Dehlinger leads the company with his unwavering pursuit for quality and his meticulous approach to winemaking and grape growing. After he finished his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in biochemistry in the late 1960s, Tom studied Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis when the program was just being established. After jobs at Beringer and Hanzell, Tom founded Dehlinger Winery in Sonoma County in 1975. It was a time when the Russian River Valley appellation had not yet been established and Pinot noir and Chardonnay were almost non-existent in the area.
Carmen Dehlinger, Director of Sales & Marketing
Carmen is the director of Sales and Marketing at Dehlinger, managing all customer relations and wholesale sales. Carmen grew up on the Dehlinger ranch with her sister Eva and their two older siblings. She studied Fashion Design at California College of the Arts in the Bay Area before joining the company in 2008.
Carole Dehlinger, Owner
Carole Dehlinger was drawn to the natural and wild beauty of Sonoma County in the 1970s. She met and married Tom in 1978. While managing customer relations at the winery she raised four children on the ranch. A life long gardener, Carole oversees a 3-acre heirloom vegetable garden on the property.
Matt Standing, Assistant Winemaker
Matt, originally from Brighton, England, gained his passion for wine while traveling and working in restaurants. He experienced his first harvest in the Yarra Valley of Australia before completing a degree in Enology at Plumpton College in his native Sussex. While studying, he gained experience making sparkling wine at Wiston Estate, and went on to complete a yearlong internship with Ramey Wine Cellars. Matt previously held the position of Assistant Winemaker at Ledson Winery. His passion for handcrafted Sonoma County wines led him to join the Dehlinger team as Assistant Winemaker in 2015.
Peter Buffon, Enologist
Peter grew up in Santa Cruz, California and his love of the natural world drove him to complete a degree in Cell Biology at UC Davis. In parallel, he developed an interest for wine and winemaking which led him to complete a master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology. Peter then began making wine in the Russian River Valley, traveled to New Zealand to make wine in Auckland, and returned to the Santa Cruz Mountains to complete a two-vintage apprenticeship at Rhys Vineyards. Peter’s path of making artisanal wines continued when he joined the Dehlinger team as Enologist in 2016.
Bradley Pierce, Viticulturist
Originally from Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley, Bradley moved to Sonoma County in 2008, and was instantly enchanted by the beauty of the surrounding vineyards, quickly setting out to learn all he could about the grapes of the area and the wines produced from them. Bradley began studying viticulture at Santa Rosa Junior College and working in vineyards from the Redwood to the Russian River Valley, before earning a degree in Viticulture & Enology from UC Davis. Bradley’s interest in the distinctive impact of local soils like goldridge and altamont on the wines of West Sonoma County made the Dehlinger Winery site a natural fit, and he joined the team as viticulturist in 2018.
Julia Lancer, Hospitality & Sales
Julia Lancer is the Hospitality & Sales Associate at Dehlinger Winery. She leads tastings and tours of the vineyard, as well as coordinating on-site events.
Julia’s background in Culinary Arts influenced her love for food and wine early in life. Before joining the Dehlinger team in 2018, Julia spent seventeen years in the specialty coffee industry as a coffee roaster, quality control manager, and educator. During this time, she expanded her understanding of taste perception, while focusing on agriculture and processing methods. Julia enjoys sharing with our guests the unique flavor profile that the Russian River Valley region has to offer.
Mauro Rivera, Vineyard Team Supervisor
Originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, Mauro joined the vineyard team at Dehlinger in 2001, learning the exacting craft of winegrowing from the ground up. Since 2014, Mauro has been working closely with Eva Dehlinger to lead the busy vineyard team in their year-round caretaking of the vines and land as Vineyard Team Supervisor
