Vineyard

The grapes for Dehlinger Wines are all grown on our Estate Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The initial vines were planted in 1975 and followed by subsequent planting through the early 1990s. We are currently initiating a vineyard redevelopment on several of our vineyard blocks.

In-house Vineyard Manager Marty Hedlund has been over-seeing the 45 acres of vines since 1988. Hedlund works with the vineyard crew to ensure that each area of the vineyard is appropriatedly pruned, managed, and thinned to bring out the potential of each peice of soil. The entire vineyard has been retrained to a "lyre"-shaped split-canopy, vertical shoot-positioned trellis system which allows for superior light penetration to the fruiting zone and systematic hand care.

Having an in-house crew allows for greater precision in harvest zones and harvest dates that would otherwise be impossible to achieve. Of our Pinot noir, Cabernet, Syrah, and Chardonnay, the majority is vinified on site; a percentage is sold to other wineries.
